About Gela Dumbadze

Gela Dumbadze is a man of many talents. Born on June 12th, 1965, Dumbadze has made a name for himself as an accomplished author, diplomat, and artist. After graduating from the Faculty of Philology at Tbilisi State University in 1989, Dumbadze went on to pursue a career in diplomacy. Since 1998, he has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, serving in diplomatic positions in the embassies of Georgia in Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.

In 2001, Dumbadze graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of Georgia, and in 2014, he served as the State Minister of Georgia for Diaspora Issues. From 2016 to 2019, he served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine. In recognition of his outstanding service, Dumbadze was granted the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Alongside his diplomatic career, Dumbadze has also pursued a career as an artist. As a member of the Georgian Artist Union and Georgian Artists League, he has participated in numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad. Dumbadze is the author of several solo exhibitions, including “Kyiv, mystical windows” at the Gallery “Art Hall” in Kyiv in 2012, “Acrylic Diary” at the Museum Workshop of I. Kavaleridze in Kyiv in 2018, and “In search of Lost Time” at the Diplomatic Club “H” in Kyiv in 2019. In March of 2019, he held an exhibition at the Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine, and in April of 2023, he is scheduled to hold an exhibition at the National Parliament Library of Georgia.

Dumbadze is also an accomplished author, having published several collections of novels, including “The Yellow Trolleybus,” “I-Runner,” and “I love Apple.” He is the winner of several Georgian-German, Lithuanian, and Georgian competitions in literature, and his plays are periodically staged in the state drama theaters of Azerbaijan and Ukraine. For his special contribution to the return of the Leuville estate in France to Georgia, Dumbadze was awarded the Tbilisi State University I. Javakhishvili medal.

In addition to his artistic and diplomatic pursuits, Dumbadze is also the President of the Georgian Fudokan Karate Federation, and holds a black belt with the 3rd Honorable Dan. With his many achievements and varied interests, Gela Dumbadze is a true Renaissance man, and an asset to the cultural and diplomatic communities of Georgia and beyond.
